Abertis Bets $1 Billion On Chile

Spain’s Abertis upped its bet in Chile by Euro 948 million (US$1.02 billion), acquiring from Canada-based Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo) the 50% equity it did not own in Santiago’s Autopista Central, Chile’s busiest toll road. Abertis has six concessions in Chile, all of which it now fully controls, totaling 771 km.

Autopista Central is a 61-km toll expressway crossing Santiago north-south and carries roughly 81,000 daily trips. The acquisition is in line with Abertis’s strategy of gaining full ownership of its highways.
