Transportation as we know it is being challenged from almost every perspective. Safety is the primary driver behind the technology arms race that has channeled billions of R&D investment beginning with ADAS (Advanced Driver Assist Systems) features available in mostly luxury vehicles today. Original equipment manufacturers are challenged with making collision avoidance systems such as emergency break alert/assist, lane departure warning, and blind spot detection affordable for main stream vehicles. In 2016, twenty automakers agreed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that they would make Emergency Break Assist a standard feature in US vehicles by 2022.
