Brazil hopes to modernize a set of iconic transportation projects under a proposed revised version of its current public-private partnership contract model. One of the first will be Rio de Janeiro’s emblematic Rio-Nitêroi bridge over Guanabara Bay, whose 20-year lease was part of the first wave of concessions of the 1990’s. President Dilma Rouseff, unveiling the proposal to update the P3 model, upheld the need to replace the “obsolete” concession model of the first assets leased by Brazil under P3 contracts.
