Brazil’s Rio-Niteroi Bridge Upgrade P3 Concession

The winning bidder for the concession to upgrade the emblematic Rio-Niteroi Bridge over Guanabara Bay in Rio de Janeiro will not have to pay an upfront fee to Brazil. Brazil waived the fee in return for getting the lowest possible tolls for users of the bridge.
Government transport regulator, Agencia Nacional de Transportes Terrestres (ANTT) is calling for Reais 1 billion (US$400 million) of capital investment to make ambitious structural improvements to the 1990’s 13.2-km-long girder box bridge, to re-equip it with state-of-the-art toll operations, redesign its access roads, and build new links to its hinterland.
