California PPP Law Sunsets

PPP proponents this month failed to gain passage of an extension of California’s transportation PPP enabling law in time to prevent its expiration at year end. Now, all proposed PPP projects on the state highway system will require project-specific legislation from Sacramento, which will pit individual project proponents against the Services Employees International Union and the Professional Engineers in California Government (PECG).

“The only way we will get a new PPP law in the future is if one is tailored to specific projects needed by an agency with influence, like LA Metro, or the industry heavy hitters take on the issue in a serious way in Sacramento,” says Nossaman’s Fred Kessler.
