At the direction of Secretary of Transportation Stephanie Pollack, the Baker Administration has shelved the development of a third bridge connecting Cape Cod to the mainland of Massachusetts. The existing Sagamore and Bourne bridges are owned by the Army Corp of Engineers, and indications are that the Commonwealth will now look to Congress to find a way to alleviate the congestion routinely associated with the two bridges during the summer months. The two existing bridges are over 80 years old and are at the end of their useful lives. Meanwhile, the Massachusetts P3 Oversight Commission met on June 10 to begin reorganizing its efforts to select candidate P3 projects. Nossaman and Foley Hoag have been hired as legal counsel. A programmatic advisor will be brought on soon.
