Chile is planning to fast track US$1.8 billion worth of P3 toll highways and create a new government Concessions Directorate to rev up its sluggish economy. The toll roads will be rolled out to bid over the next year. President Michelle Bachelet, who announced the plan in the middle of March, emphasized that the new roads will be in addition to a six-year US$9.9-billion infrastructure program that was started last year. The fresh capital investments are to improve the bruised Chilean economy, which is suffering from a smaller volume of lower priced mineral exports.
