Despite Political Uncertainty, Peru Attracts Infra Investment

The president of Peru seems safe for now after surviving an impeachment vote in Congress based on graft charges involving Brazilian construction conglomerate Odebrecht. But President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski’s pardoning of former leader Alberto Fujimori, coming only days after he narrowly escaped being impeached, added to the public outcry and deepened a sense of mistrust in Peru.

But critics have acknowledged that given the political uncertainties and tensions that would come from ousting Kuczinski, the impeachment process merited a more thoughtful and less emotional debate.
