If self-driving cars can drop off a passenger and then either pick up another passenger or drive to a remote parking facility, will downtown parking garages or on-street parking be needed? This reality may not be far off. Tesla cars, using the “summon” feature, can open a garage door and park without a driver. There is a widespread belief that parking facilities will be less valuable once connected vehicles (CV) and autonomous vehicles (AV) are fully deployed, but will this be the case?
