The westbound span of the Goethals Bridge opened to traffic in late May 2018 on time and within the $934-million design-build budget set at financial close in April 2014, according to Rick Cotton, executive director of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The eastbound span opened in June, 2017. The old bridge is being removed by the joint venture builders Kiewit Construction (70%)/ Weeks Marine (15%)/Massman Construction (15%), with Parsons Transportation Group, handling design.
“When you look at this nearly completed project, it is a work of science, innovation and a little art, and we’re very proud of the leadership role the Port Authority has taken,” said Kevin O’Toole, chair of the Port Authority.
