Peru chose a Spanish-led consortium, Nuevo Metro de Lima, to build and operate Linea 2, a US$5.65-billion, new 27-km underground metro line in Lima with an 8-km long spur off Linea 4 to Jorge Chavez international airport. Linea 2 will cross the city east to west to the port city of Callao. The P3 contract is slated for signing soon.
The venture, “the biggest infrastructure project undertaken in Peru today,” according to Transport minister Carlos Paredes, will be funded by Peru with US$3.69 billion for construction and rolling stock, and by the consortium, which will invest US$1.47 billion.
