The regional transportation agency for the area around Toronto has issued the RFQ for its massive heavy-rail upgrading program. The Metrolinx RFQ includes vehicles, estimated at Cdn $2.5 billion, and extensive upgrades and expansions of rail corridors.
The total capital budget for the project is Cdn $7 billion, but not all the work is covered in this RFQ. Some has been broken into other packages of enabling work and stations and parking. The undertaking is a “once in a generation project,” said Ehren Cory, President and CEO of Infrastructure Ontario, which has been closely involved with Metrolinx. The RFQ closes in September.
