The N.C. Department of Transportation on April 11 selected Cintra to negotiate terms of a toll-revenue-risk concession to widen and convert a section of I-77 in Charlotte from HOV lanes to tolled managed lanes, plus operate both public and private lanes during the 50-year term of the agreement.
Cintra, which has a large portfolio of toll concessions, was the only one of four shortlisted teams to submit a proposal. If final terms are reached, it will construct the $655-million project through a joint venture with F.A. Southeast, W.C. English, and the lead design firm of The Louis Berger Group.
