NYU Promotes Design-Build For NY

A study promoting the virtues of design-build delivery and best value selection done this month by the Rudin Center at New York University aims to convince state legislators to extend the 2011 pilot program under which a  $3.14-billion contract for the Tappan Zee Bridge replacement and eight small design-build projects were awarded by NYState DOT.

The study was sponsored by RBC Capital Markets and the Association for a Better New York. Turmoil among the legislative leadership delayed consideration of a DB bill this year so the findings will be part of future attempts to open New York State’s large transportation market to design-build and P3s.
