P3 For $1.4bn Alberta, Canada Power Line

The government agency that runs Alberta’s electricity system has picked Alberta PowerLine Limited Partnership for a Cdn $1.4-billion DBFOM power transmission line. The Alberta Electricity System Operator (AESO) also announced that it will begin the procurement for a second, similar, DBFOM line in 2015.

The deal is the first P3-type transaction in the Canadian transmission sector, which is dominated in many provinces by government companies. It’s also the first under the competitive process the government ordered for the two lines.
