The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) has shortlisted four of six teams competing for DBFOM delivery of its 550-mile fiber-optic broadband network P3. The infrastructure will be built mainly along turnpike rights of way under a 30-year development agreement that encourages commercial exploitation of the publicly owned system.
The primary use of the fiber optic system is to support expansion of the turnpike’s cashless collection of tolls. It will also provide connectivity for the administrative buildings, maintenance sheds, tolling systems, traffic cameras, and dynamic message signs. Availability payments will be made based on the performance of these systems.
