PPP Canada ‘Paused’

Canada’s federal PPP program has been “paused,” Toronto representatives said recently after the city’s pitch for PPP money was sidelined earlier this year. Two Toronto staff reports to city council provided the first indication of what has happened to PPP Canada after the Liberals won the November 2015 election. PPP Canada was begun by the previous Conservative government in 2009 and has spent Cdn $75.6 million, while promising Cdn $1.32 billion to promote projects.

Responding to the Toronto disclosures, the agency said it has “indicated to a number of applicants with significantly large projects following the 2016 budget that the government of Canada’s long-term infrastructure will, in part, focus on larger, economically strategic and transformative projects.”
