The Renaissance of Bond Insurance

Municipal bond insurance, which was applied to roughly half the par sold in the U.S. public finance market in the years before the financial crisis, is attracting renewed interest among tax-exempt investors and issuers seeking the most cost-efficient bond executions.  With many of the public-private partnership financings in the United States accessing the tax-exempt market with private activity bonds, bond insurance can be an important tool for lowering borrowing costs.
