U.S. Managed Lanes Politics

The anti-profit sentiment that lurks behind every private toll concession varies by location, especially for revenue-maximizing managed lanes. In California, the public administrator of the SR91 Express Lanes suggests that it might be possible to build a private managed lanes project there but only as long as it’s not too successful. The verdict is still out in Texas, which will have two managed lanes concessions start up near Dallas in 2015. WashCOG’s Ron Kirby thinks 495 Express will avoid charges of profiteering.
